FDN101: INTRODUCTION TO DESIGNPrinciples of Design focuses on the history of design and its applications, as well as focuses on the basic principles of design: terminology, methods of problem-solving, aspects of composition, visual hierarchy, content development, scale, contrast and pattern. Students will study design movements while learning the fundamentals behind any good design.
GDIM SUMMER CAMPGraphic Design Summer Camp is a project-based week. During this week we will go over fundamentals of what a brand is, color, type, history and culture. Students will understand the process involved in creating original work, which includes research, an understanding of their audience, and expectations of deliverables.
GDI206: GRAPHIC DESIGN 1
This course examines complex and multi-faceted commercial design problems as a means of developing dynamic and innovative solutions. Design projects are analyzed according to their conceptual and graphical composition, and are developed to effectively and creatively communicate a message to a specific audience.
Students explore a design movement to create a visual example of a word that expresses those characteristics.
Part 1: There are many periods of design. Baroque, Postmodernism. Modernism, etc. Students will choose a period they are interested in and give a ten minute presentation on that time period to include the style as well as relevant designers. How does that work influence what we see today? Research should include different disciplines of art and design.
Part 2: Type as object. Using that period of design, create a visual of a word that expresses those characteristics. Think color, texture, type, dimension, to express that period. This assignment should use three dimensional materials, photographed, and pulled together for a final presentation to the class. Photograph process as you go. Final design pdf must include finished work as well as at least 5 images of process, your research and presentation from part 1.
In this project-based week students will learn the fundamentals of design's role in brand development through color, type, history and culture.
Students will understand the process involved in creating original work, which includes research, an understanding of their audience, and expectations of deliverables. During the week you will develop a concept for a food truck which will include final delivery of designs of a logo, truck, menu and signage.
