When I talk about design, I tend to use evocative words like connection, storytelling, flow. Then there are the words you need to know when it comes to executing the work such as pixels, feet, inches, elevation, interface, perfect binding, saddle stitch, text weight, cover weight, spreads, bleeds, die cut, 24 (frames per second) mp4, pdf, 72, 150, 300 and on and on. These refer to print, digital and environmental, the physical and digital words that are a part of all our lives. I believe it’s important to understand all of it, because working in design doesn’t mean you should be limited to one thing.
